| Citing the pressures
of “two-city living,” the Rev. Joanna M. Adams
has resigned as co-pastor of Fourth Presbyterian Church in
Chicago. For the past two years, Adams has served the historic
Chicago congregation with the Rev. John M. Buchanan.
Adams moved to Chicago from Atlanta while her husband, Al, remained
in Atlanta. “The personal price (we) have paid in conjunction
with two-city living is simply too large to sustain going forward,”
Adams wrote in her resignation letter to Fourth church.
Her resignation, effective Dec. 31, was approved by the congregation
on Jan. 4.

After nearly two decades of service on the faculty and as director
of the library at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary
(LPTS), the Rev. Milton “Joe” Coalter has resigned
to become librarian and professor of bibliography at Union Theological
Seminary/Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond,
VA. He will begin his new work in the fall of 2004.
During his tenure, Coalter led the expansion and automation
of the White Library at LPTS, introduced a compact shelving system
that increased the library’s capacity and integrated the
seminary’s professional and academic technology systems.
Coalter is perhaps best-known as co-director of The Presbyterian
Presence, a seven-volume study of Presbyterians in the 20th century
which he co-authored with then LPTS president the Rev. John Mulder
and the Rev. Louis Weeks, a former LPTS professor who is now president
of Union/PSCE.
Coalter also currently serves on the Presbyterian Church (USA)
Theological Task Force on the Peace, Unity and Purity of the Church.
