Presbyterians Today posts 'The Passion of the Christ' resources online

by Jerry L. Van Marter

LOUISVILLE — Presbyterians Today, the magazine of the Presbyterian Church (USA), has posted a review and discussion guide for the films “The Passion of the Christ” on its Web site www.pcusa.org/today.

The controversial Mel Gibson film opened today in theaters nationwide, on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 25.

The review and discussion guide were written by the Rev. Ed McNulty, editor of the film guide Visual Parables and author of Praying the Movies and Praying the Movies II, published by Geneva Press. McNulty regularly reviews movies with religious themes for Presbyterians Today.

In his review, McNulty suggests that adults see the film before deciding whether to take their youth groups. Numerous critics have noted the extreme violence and brutality depicted in Gibson’s movie. It is rated “R.”
