Dr. Alvaro Uribe Velez, Presidente
Palacio de Narino
Carrera 8 No. 7-26
Bogata, Colombia
Mr. President:
We have heard from the Coordination of Human Rights in Barranquilla — an organization that includes the Presbytery of the Coast of the Presbyterian Church of Colombia — of the recent detentions of 11 displaced persons who were interrogated by members of the Second Brigade of the Army and by Security Administration (DAS) intelligence personnel.
According to testimony from the detainees, they were shown photographs and videos of people entering and leaving the offices of the Presbytery of the Coast, where the Presbyterian Church of Colombia has a program to assist displaced persons. The Coordination of Human Rights in Barranquilla also has an office of legal support for the displaced there.
We have also heard that leaders of the Coordination of Human Rights in Barranquilla have been questioned.
We ask that you guarantee and protect the activities, development and work in defense of human rights, which supports the displaced.
We shall be waiting to hear what happens in the matter of our brothers, sisters and friends in the Coordination of Human Rights in Barranquilla.
Sincerely,
|
