Historical society announces dates for Local Church History Seminar
by Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE — The Presbyterian Historical Society’s 26th annual Seminar on Local Church History will take place at the Montreat Conference Center in North Carolina from April 25-29, 2005.
The seminar is designed for those who manage, preserve and write Presbyterian history, particularly of their local congregations.
It features workshops on Presbyterian history, oral history, researching and writing a church history, managing and conserving church records, disaster planning, exhibiting historical records and artifacts, and planning anniversary celebrations.
PHS offers two scholarships to attend the seminar for participants from small churches (less than 250 members) which have been in existence for more than 50 years and who demonstrate financial need.
The William Black Lodge Scholarship is open to participants from congregations in the Synod of the Mid-Atlantic. The other scholarship is awarded by PHS.
