MONTREAT, NC — The School of Professional and Adult Studies at Montreat College recently announced the offering of a new Bachelor of Science in Management (BSM) degree. The BSM is designed for working professionals seeking a degree program and learning environment that builds upon their educational and work experience, integrating business skills with biblically based principles. The curriculum focuses on communication and critical thinking skills, as well as ethical and Christian worldview approaches to managerial problem solving.

WAUKESHA, WI — Carroll College has received a $559,450 Nursing Workforce Diversity (NWD) grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to recruit and educate Hispanic students in nursing. The three-year grant, from the HHS’s Health Resources and Services Administration, includes $115,500 in scholarships for Hispanic students in the program. Carroll College will contribute $96,381 or 15 percent of the total project cost. The NWD project addresses the severe nationwide shortage of minority nurses. The college’s initiative, the Hispanic Nursing Project, focuses on a local shortage of Hispanic nurses. The school was one of 24 institutions that received funding this year under the NWD program. A total of 160 applications for funding were submitted.

CLINTON, SC — Presbyterian College broke ground last month on a 15,000-square-foot expansion of the James H. Thomason Library. The expansion will add a wing dedicated to the college’s archives and special collections and also completely renovate the existing facility.

DANVILLE, KY — Centre College professor and world-renowned musician Vince DiMartino has been named CASE Kentucky Professor of the Year. The announcement was made in Washington by the sponsoring organizations the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. DiMartino, Matton Professor of Music, joined the Centre faculty in 1993. He received a bachelor’s and master’s of music from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. In addition to teaching, DiMartino has performed with such artists as Henry Mancini, Doc Severinsen, Pearl Bailey, Dizzy Gillespie, Tony Bennett and Stevie Wonder.

BATESVILLE, AR — The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) has named Mark D. Schram, associate professor of biology at Lyon College, as Arkansas Professor of the Year. This is the 11th time in 16 years a Lyon College faculty member has been selected as Arkansas Professor of the Year. The foundation and CASE announced the selection of Schram, other state winners and four national winners, during a ceremony held last month in Washington, DC.
