Joan of Arc ‘docudrama’ set to air on Hallmark Channel
Based on Joan’s own words, show premieres March 21

LOUISVILLE — Renowned actor Alfred Molina narrates and Academy Award–winner Anna Paquin stars as the voice of Joan in a new Hallmark Channel original “docudrama” entitled “Joan of Arc: Child of War, Soldier of God.”
The show, produced for Hallmark by Faith & Values Media and directed by Pamela Mason Wagner, premieres in prime time on March 21. Faith & Values Media is the nation’s largest coalition of Jewish and Christian faith groups dedicated to media production, distribution and promotion. The membership of the association is made up of denominations, organizations and individuals — including the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
As the English raided the countryside villages of France in 1425, 13-year-old Joan began hearing voices, voices that demanded she bring peace to war-ravaged France. By the time she was 17 Joan had convinced leaders of France to grant her an army, and she fearlessly mobilized her troops on a quest that stunned the English invaders and brought about the coronation of the Dauphin, the French heir to the throne. At 19 Joan was convicted of heresy and sentenced to death by burning at the stake.
The Hallmark program is based on her own testimony.
“Throughout history poets, artists, religious and cultural leaders have followed a voice within themselves to accomplish wonderful things,” said Edward J. Murray, president and chief executive officer of Faith & Values Media. “Joan serves as inspiration for everyday individuals, of all ages and walks of life, to believe in God and believe in their mission.”
Barbara Hall, creator and executive producer of the hit television series “Joan of Arcadia,” commented, “We don’t have to accept our challenges; we can say ‘no.’ That’s why when people say ‘yes’ and step up to the challenge, it becomes an amazing thing.” Hall provides commentary during the program.
