The Rev. Emily Enders Odom of Asheville, NC, has been named communication officer for the Mission Initiative: Joining Hearts and Hands — the five-year campaign to raise $40 million for overseas mission personnel and new-church development in the United States, particularly in racial-ethnic and immigrant communities.
Odom, who will mostly work from her North Carolina home, served for many years on the communication and program staff of the Montreat Conference Center. She also has been

Anna Abigail (Gail) Reed, 97, a long-time Presbyterian missionary in northeast Africa and the Middle East, died recently. Reed served with her husband, Glenn, in Sudan, Eritrea and Ethiopia. Glenn Reed began his mission service in 1927; Gail joined him in 1931. Both retired in 1970.
Their son, Dr. David Reed, was instrumental in establishing the Ethiopia Education Endowment Fund of the PC(USA).

Elder Daniel Stoepker, a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Detroit who in January received the 2005 Rodney T. Martin Award from the Presbyterian Health, Education and Welfare Association (PHEWA) for long-term service, died of AIDS on Aug. 5.
Stoepker, who tested HIV-positive in 1986, was active in numerous PC(USA) organizations, including More Light Presbyterians, That All May Freely Serve, the Presbyterian AIDS Network and the PHEWA board of directors. In 2000, he served as an elder commissioner to the 212th

Stoepker was surrounded by friends and
family — including his son Jeremy and his daughter Jennifer — when he died. A memorial service was held at Westminster Church on Aug. 14. |
