The Rev. John M. Irvine, who served on the faculty and staff of San Francisco Theological Seminary from 1968 to 1994, died on Jan. 18 after a lengthy illness. He was 78.
Irvine, a Philadelphia native, arrived at SFTS during the tumultuous 60s. He and his wife, Lily, endeared themselves to the campus community with their wonderful parties, including their legendary “Pre-Thanksgiving Bashes.”
A memorial service was held on Jan. 28 in Stewart Chapel on campus.
