LOUISVILLE — The Rev. Allison Seed, a minister from the Presbytery of Heartland, was reelected chair of the General Assembly Council of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) by a landslide vote of 37 out of 45 votes cast Thursday (March 15).

Seed, currently in her sixth year on the GAC, will serve a second one-year term. She will rotate off the council in 2008.

Charles Easley, an elder in Atlanta’s Radcliffe Presbyterian Church in Greater Atlanta Presbytery was elected vice chair with a vote of 28 of 45 votes cast in a second election.

Four people were nominated for the two offices. The other two were Andrea Stokes of Little Rock, Ark., and Jacquelin Lyman of Hemet, Calif., in Riverside Presbytery, who removed her name from contention prior to the balloting.

Seed has been pastor of the 195-member Trinity Presbyterian Church in Independence, Mo., for the past 12 years. She said she checked with her congregation before allowing her name to be put up for the time-consuming job, and that the congregation had been very supportive of all her Assembly-level work.

The council also approved assignments to its five new committees. During their inaugural meetings, they elected their chairs:

  • Spirituality and Discipleship: the Rev. Dale Lindsay-Morgan, Santa Barbara, Calif.
  • Evangelism and Witness: the Rev. Linda Knierieman, Holland, Mich.
  • Justice and Compassion: Andrea Stokes, Little Rock, Ark.
  • Leadership and Vocation: the Rev. Mary Marks King, Cowansville, Pa.
  • Shared Support: Frank Adams, Pensacola, Fla.
