PHEWA seeks ministry award nominees
Recipients will be celebrated at 2008 General Assembly
LOUISVILLE — The Presbyterian Health, Education and Welfare Association (PHEWA) is seeking nominations for four ministry awards that will be celebrated during the social welfare ministries group’s reception at the 218th General Assembly in San Jose, CA, next June.
Recipients will also be honored at a meeting of the presbytery where they are engaged in ministry.
The Presbyterian Association for Community Transformation (PACT) Award recognizes a congregation, that either through ecumenical or interfaith community ministry or a special project of the congregation, has been faithful and creative in its ministry to and with its community.
Presbyterians for Disability Concerns (PDC) presents the Nancy Jennings Award to a person, congregation or PCUSA entity that affirms, supports and advocates for the gifts, rights, and responsibilities of persons with disabilities in the total life of the church.
Presbyterians for Addiction Action (PAA) presents the David Hancock Award, honoring a congregation or church professional for their contributions in the field of addiction prevention, intervention and recovery.
The Presbyterian Serious Mental Illness Network (PSMIN) presents the Florence Iversen Kraft Award to recognize a congregation that has demonstrated outstanding leadership in its ministry with those who have a serious mental illness and with their families. PAA, PACT, PDC, and PSMIN are all networks of PHEWA, an organization of the
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) that is dedicated to the enactment of social justice and welfare ministries.
Deadline for nominations is Feb. 15, 2008. Nominations must include the name of person/congregation being nominated, the contact person for the nominee with addresses and phone numbers for both, and a two page description of the ministry, including why they are deserving of this recognition.
