New Covenant Trust Company sponsors exhibit of medieval and Renaissance masterpieces
Art work will be on display in Louisville starting this month
LOUISVILLE — New Covenant Trust Company (NCTC), part of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Foundation Group, will be the presenting sponsor of a collection of masterpieces from the medieval and Renaissance periods starting later this month.
The Medieval and Renaissance Treasures from the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, England will be on display at Louisville’s Speed Art Museum here from Jan. 22 to April 20.
The collection of sacred and secular art includes 35 mostly small-scale works from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance (ca. 300-1600 A.D.) that come from church settings and the private collections of affluent Renaissance patrons.
Works include a rare notebook on geometry and mathematics by artist and inventor Leonardo da Vinci; the Reliquary Casket of St. Thomas Becket; ivories made for the court of Charlemagne; and the only known Byzantine ivory statuette of the Virgin and Child carved entirely in the round.
Other artists represented in the exhibition include Donatello, Veit Stoss and Giovanni Pisano.
“The New Covenant Trust Company is proud to support the Speed Art Museum and this incredibly important and historical art exhibition,” said Bob Leech, vice chair and chief executive officer of NCTC and president and chief executive officer of the Presbyterian Foundation.
“Our own rich history dates back over 200 years to 1799, which is young by European history standards, but we believe deeply in the preservation of the principles and values upon which our organization was originally founded,” Leech continued. “This collection of medieval and Renaissance treasurescaptures the essence of both spiritual and secular artistic expression during two of the most important eras in European art history, preserving the rich history of some of the most prominent artists of the times for future generations.”
New Covenant Trust Company was formed in 1998 as a subsidiary of the Presbyterian Foundation and provides financial planning, investment management and trust services for individuals and institutions seeking to achieve performance in ways consistent with their principles and values. |
