Earth Day celebration

Leaders from the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the National Council of Churches of Christ (NCC) gathered at the Presbyterian Center in Louisville on April 22 to celebrate Earth Day and the ecological vision contained in the new ecumenical Social Creed for the 21st Century.
Following a worship service, PC(USA) General Assembly Stated Clerk the Rev. Clifton Kirkpatrick (right) and the Rev. Michael Kinnamon, the new general secretary of the National Council of Churches of Christ (NCC), prepare to plant a sapling on the center lawn. Kinnamon presented the tree to Kirkpatrick to symbolize the leadership taken by the PC(USA) in the development of the new social creed. (Read related story.)
