| A decade of fighting and insecurity
in the Mano River Union Basin (Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea)
has made thousands of people homeless as refugees and Internally
Displaced Persons fled their homes and to seek safety in camps.
Fighting between the Liberian Army and rebels in Liberia's
Lofa County, bordering Sierra Leone and Guinea, continues with
mass migration throughout the region. Among the crises caused
by the fighting has been rape and other forms of sexual abuse
of women and children by men fighting the war.
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is providing $20,000 from
One Great Hour of Sharing and funds designed for International
Disasters to help in responding to the psycho-social needs of
women and children who have suffered sexual abuse in the ongoing
fighting in the North West county (Lofa) of Liberia.
