Resource Centre for Civil Leadership (RECONCILE) was established in March 2004 as a sister agency of the New Sudan Council of Churches to help Christian and other community leaders develop the skills they need to promote reconciliation, restoration and rebuilding and to establish democracy and good governance in their communities.
- Civic education training — Civic education is at the heart of RECONCILE’s mandate. Peace building and social transformation to include consciousness–raising on issues of good governance, democracy and voter education, human rights and awareness of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and the Constitution help begin the process of reconciliation.
- Psychosocial rehabilitation — Helps Sudanese heal the memories and wounds of war through trauma awareness and healing programs and reconciliation seminars and workshops. This includes training Sudanese as peer counselors to serve traumatized community members.
- Intercultural/cross culture and interfaith awareness programs — In the past, religion has been used by the North as a justification for the war. Interfaith awareness and dialogue promotes conditions for coexistence through religious tolerance promotion visits, collection and dissemination of ethnological material and training church leaders in understanding Islam.
- Disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DDR) of excombatants — RECONCILE is focusing on the reintegration portion though vocational training programs and trauma healing. The programs will provide soldiers with the necessary skills to re-enter society rather than be drawn into affiliating with the local militias
