Prayers for Sudan

Revised July 28, 2004

  • For God's intervention in the lives of the people of Darfur who are being persecuted and tortured, denied humanitarian aid and murdered.
  • For Haruun Ruun and the New Sudan Council of Churches, that the People to People Program will bring peace and harmony to the people of the south.
  • For the leadership of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement that they may understand the need to develop a truly representative government and thereby unite all the oppressed people of Sudan.
  • For a successful completion of the North/South peace talks so that a just peace for every Sudanese citizen may be achieved.
  • For the awareness, integrity, fortitude and wisdom of our country's leaders so that the United States will:
    1. Effectively implement the Sudan Peace Act;
    2. Avoid closer political ties with the Government of Sudan until a just peace is achieved throughout the country and then only resume normal relations based on Khartoum's continued compliance with the peace agreement;
    3. Use its leadership in dealing with the Government of Sudan as an example to other nations to encourage them to censure countries that engage in genocide of their own citizens.
  • For multilateral involvement of the European Union, African Union, Arab League, and United Nations Security Council to support the initiatives of the United States in taking a stronger stance to prevent the inevitable genocide in Darfur, Western Sudan.
  • For continued growth of the Church in Sudan and spiritual knowledge of its leaders so that they may effectively share the Love of our Lord with others.
  • For the Islamic leaders of the Government of Sudan, that their hearts may be opened by compassion and they will be led to stop the Holocaust. That in God's ways, these enemies, whom we are commanded to love, would become aware of His deep love for them and the war Jesus already has fought for them, personally on the cross.

This prayer is provided by the Sudan Advocacy Action Forum (SAAF). SAAF was organized as a Christian grassroots effort to coordinate advocacy efforts on behalf of the people of Southern Sudan.

The members of the Sudan Advocacy Action Forum are Presbyterians from around our denomination who want to see justice and peace for the people of Sudan. We are convinced of the need for ALL Presbyterians to become informed and to act on behalf of the Sudanese

For additional information about the SAAF or the prayer needs for prayers for Sudan, contact: Bill Andress, or Bobbie-Frances McDonal.

Support to humanitarian efforts in this crisis can be marked for account number DR000043 Sudan .
