We recently learned that planned interventions my need to be reduced if funds are not forthcoming. Therefore PDA just sent an additional $20,000, bringing our total response thus far to $105,000. We have also committed to sending an additional $200,000 during the first quarter of 2006.

Below are examples of what your gift will do:

• $175 supports a shelter kit — each shelter kit includes the following items:
  • Family-size Tent -1 (3,000 regular tents and 17,000 winterized)
  • Ground Sheet – 1
  • Plastic Sheet – 1
  • Iron Poles – 2 (with hammer)
  • Blankets – 4

• $190 will support reconstruction of a simple dwelling:

  • Cement – 15 bags
  • Garder (iron beams) – 6
  • Windows – 3
  • Door – 4
  • Tin Sheets, Wire Mesh, Steel Rods and other Earthquake Resistant Materials

  Other steps involved in this component include: survey and mapping of the damaged area, estimation of damaged houses, demarcation of land tenure, provision of tools for clearing of debris, Cash for Work for debris clearing, and planning, community mobilization and training.

  

• $72 will provide a supplementary food packet supporting a family of 5 for one month — each food package comprises:
  • Wheat flour - 80 kg
  • Rice - 40 kg
  • Pulses - 7 kg
  • Cooking oil - 10 liters
  • Sugar - 7 kg
  • Tea leaves - 1 kg
  • Salt (Iodized) - 1 packet
  • Match Box - 1 packet
  • Soap – 4
    



• $10 will provide a family with clean, safe and palatable water for drinking, cooking, and personal hygiene.
