The generous giving of Presbyterians has enabled Indonesian survivors of the tsunami to begin the process of rebuilding. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance’s initial goal of $2.5 million has been exceeded. Thank You!

The following photos provide an example of what your funds are doing. Photos were taken by Helena Manninen-Visuri, FinnChurchAid/ACT International.

The tsunami destroyed the town of Meulaboh
The town of Meulaboh in the west coast of Sumatra was badly destroyed by the tsunami. More than a third of the 120,000 inhabitants were killed. Survivors are staying with relatives or at shelters.

The ACT International water and sanitation project is at work in Meulaboh   The ACT International water and sanitation program is being implemented by ACT member Norwegian Church Aid in Meulaboh. Water is delivered to IDP camps
Camps for the internally displaced have been equipped with water tanks that are filled with clean water from the trucks every day. At the moment, water is being transported to four IDP camps, but there are plans to increase the number.

People living in IDP camps and temporary shelters come with buckets and pitchers to get clean water for their families. The inhabitants themselves are in charge of keeping the area around the water tanks and taps clean.
