Journey to Recovery —
a photo essay from Indonesia

April 2005

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) has provided more than $3.3 million from One Great Hour of Sharing and designated funds to meet the immediate food, water, medical, psychosocial, and shelter needs of the December 26, 2004 tsunami survivors. Even as the immediate needs are addressed, we have also been engaged in long term planning and ways to restore livelihoods by exploring opportunities to assist with fishing, agriculture, and microenterprise.

Although it will take several years for the countries affected by the December 26, 2004 tsunami to fully recover from the effects of this disaster, the work of Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA), in cooperation with members of the Action by Churches Together (ACT) International alliance and our mission partners, is helping disaster survivors begin the long journey of returning to a sense of normalcy.

These photos help to tell the story of this how this journey begins.

Photos were taken by Emily Will, MCC/ACT.
