Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is continuing to work with the National Presbyterian Church of Mexico (INPM) in response to severe flooding that affected Tabasco, Mexico.
INPM has cancelled its General Assembly meeting in Orizaba, Veracruz, to devote funds to the flood response. Currently, 24 Mexican churches are serving as shelters for families that have been displaced by the floods. More than 2,600 people are being supported by these host churches. PDA has provided $30,000 to help the Mexican churches in this ministry of hospitality.
PDA Latin America representative Carlos Cardenas will be leading a Central American team into Tabasco to support the church in assessment and in putting together an ACT appeal. Team members will include staff from DanChurch Aid in Honduras and Lutheran World Federation in El Salvador. Team members have specific expertise in shelter management and in the preparation of appeals and budgets for the global community.
A photojournalist from PDA's partner, Church World Service, will be traveling to Tabasco after Thanksgiving to help us provide updates on the response.
Please continue to hold the church leadership and survivors in your prayers.
