Update on Activities of the Action by Churches Together Palestine Forum (ACT PF/APF)

January 9, 2009

  • January 5, 2009 — ACT/PF has mandated a APF consolidated approach to Gaza Emergency assistance
  • January 6, 2009 — ACT/PF ten-day Gaza Emergency Action Plan drafted (by Norwegian Church Aid (NCA))
  • January 7, 2009 — APF establishes  "Gaza Emergency Team " with Department of Service to the Palestine Refugee (DSPR), International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC)/YMCA seconded members
  • January 8, 2009 — Completed procurement/packing of approximately 12,000 cartons (9250 cartons for IOCC/YMCA Gaza partners , 2750 cartons for DSPR Gaza clinics) of high protein biscuits (approx. 276,000 individual pieces)  transport to Gaza border January 9, 2009
  • January 8, 2009 — Completed procurement/packing  (IOCC/YMCA Gaza Partners) of 20,300 liters of fortified milk transport to Gaza border January 9, 2009
  • January 8, 2009 — Procurement processing of medicines for Al Ahli hospital (approx. 32,000 USD) packing to be finalized January 9, 2009 with transport to Gaza border January 9, 2009
  • January 8, 2009 — Procurement processing of medical supplies for Al Ahli hospital (approx. 12,000 USD) packing to be finalized January 9, 2009 with projected transport to Gaza border January 9, 2009
  • January 8, 2009 — Procurement processing of medical supplies for DSPR Gaza Clinics  (approximately 24,000 USD) packing to be finalized January 9, 2009 with projected transport to Gaza border January 9, 2009
  • January 8, 2009 — Two pallets of quilts to NCA/Al Ahli hospital (donated from IOCC/YMCA) with projected transport to Gaza border January 9, 2009
  • January 8, 2009 — Gaza  "humanitarian corridor" crossing closed due to shooting from both sides resulting in two forklift drivers killed.
  • January 8, 2009 — IOCC/YMCA   sent to NCA consultant their revised Appeal section.
  • January 9, 2009 — Threats of strike in Gaza: following recent drivers causalities, drivers want to raise the security issue with the U.N.
  • Total APF Gaza Emergency funds used for the first phase transport to Gaza : $129,000
  • NCA/ Al AHLI hospital medicines/supplies: $45,000
  • DSPR   nutritional supplement biscuits: $10,000
  • DSPR   medicines for Gaza Clinics: $24,000
  • IOCC/YMCA   nutritional supplement biscuits, fortified milk: $50,000
  • Transport costs approximately $2000 (contributed by IOCC, YMCA, NCA, DSPR)

Summary Comments

  • Procurement this week of the above noted emergency assistance  has been limited to $130,000 as this has been the actual cash on hand  availability of the participating APF members.
