Letter of Appreciation — Hurricane response, 2004

The Rev. Dr. Arlene W. Gordon, Executive Presbyter, Presbytery of Tropical Florida, has written a thank you letter for assistance the presbytery received following the 2004 hurricanes.

Financial response to the disaster appeal issued by Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) in response to the 2004 hurricanes has been most generous. As a result, twenty-seven churches and sixteen presbyteries have received PDA grants from One Great Hour of Sharing and designated funds totaling over $1,039,000.

Dear Stan:

Words are inadequate to express our sincere appreciation to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance for their support to this Presbytery following the hurricanes of last fall. Your office has been most helpful in supporting us financially as we continue to recover from the damage done by the storms.

I am happy to report that Peace, Stuart, the congregation most seriously damaged, hopes to return to their sanctuary by Easter Sunday. We have also completed roof repairs on several of our churches. Many of our congregations were hit hard by outrageous deductible insurance costs. Thanks to your office, we have been able to assist them. There is still much to be done as we continue to provide assistance to those affected.

At our Presbytery meeting on Saturday, we lifted up the One Great Hour of Sharing Offering and encouraged congregations to take the offering on Easter Sunday.

Thank you so much for all you have done.

With warm regards,

The Rev. Dr. Arlene W. Gordon
Executive Presbyter, The Presbytery of Tropical Florida
