We know that many churches in our Presbytery are probably contacting members to make sure they are okay. We would like to know how your congregations might be affected by this disaster. If you are aware of anyone who was affected, please email us at communications@ptcaweb.org, so that we can offer prayers and provide assistance.
In the meantime, we leave you this prayer:
Out of the darkness we cry to you, oh God.
Enable us to find in Christ
The faith to trust your care
Even in the midst of pain,
so that we may not walk alone
through the valley of the shadow of death;
through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

August 2, 2007, from Louisville:
One of the Twin Cities' major bridges collapsed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, during rush hour on August 1, 2007, when an entire span suddenly broke into huge sections and collapsed into the Mississippi River. Dozens of vehicles, tons of concrete and twisted metal went crashing into the water. At least four people were killed, and more than 60 people were injured. Officials state it could take several days to search the rubble.
A letter of consolation and prayer has been sent from the Executive Director and Stated Clerk’s office to Twin Cities Presbytery and the Synod of Lakes and Prairies.
PDA National Response Team member Jim Anderson is in Minnesota and active in the State VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters). Jim reports the following:
- A reception center has been established at a nearby Holiday Inn.
- They have now switched from rescue operations to recovery.
- Salvation Army is fulfilling their role of providing support to the rescue and recovery workers.
PDA is in touch with the executive of Twin Cities Presbytery for consultation regarding what the needed and appropriate role of PDA might be in this situation.
Please keep those who lost loved ones, the survivors, the caregivers and the entire community in your thoughts and prayers.
