Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) stands ready to provide support to those affected by the 6.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Wells, Nevada.
PDA has been in contact with the Presbytery of Nevada and the Wells Presbyterian Church to determine how One Great Hour of Sharing funds and members of the PDA National Response Team can help the community recovery from this disaster.
Wells is a rural community of about 1,500 people located near the Nevada-Utah border. It is about 350 miles east of Reno, Nevada, and sits in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains.
While there are reports of several hundred buildings sustaining some kind of damage, most of the damage appeared to have affected Well's historical downtown area. At least 35 families are in emergency shelters as rescue crews continue to work. The American Red Cross estimates at least 40 families are displaced.
Please keep the residents of Wells and those offering support and recovery assistance in your prayers. |
