Presbyterian Disaster Assistance has provided funds from One Great Hour of Sharing to the Palo Duro Presbytery for tornado relief in Cactus, Texas. Funds will be made available to First Presbyterian Church of Dumas, Texas, as they take a leadership role in that community to coordinate the relief efforts.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance National Response Team (PDA-NRT) member Harvey Howell has been working with the church and has evaluated the situation as they have begun to deal with the need for providing shelter for more than 150 homeless families. The church is also leading the effort to create a long term recovery program in the community, with several persons from the Dumas Presbyterian community in leadership roles.

The opportunity to involve other churches is also underway, making this a true community effort.
