Conflict in the Caucasus
Pray for the people of Georgia, Russia, South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
Athletes from around the globe have gathered in Beijing. As the world's attention focuses on the Olympic games, violence persists in many places.
In South Ossetia, an ongoing conflict between Georgia and Russia has escalated and flared for several days. Reports now indicate that the Russian President has called for an “end to military operations.”
Many have called for such a halt including President Bush, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon and charitable organizations.
The United Nations Security Council has met. Relief efforts have begun.
May the announcement that military operations have ended prove true and may the work of rebuilding begin.
The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) currently has mission personnel and partners in Russia but not in Georgia.

Gun Violence and Gospel Values
The annual Peacemaking Colloquium will be a time to learn about gun violence and explore ways the church of Jesus Christ can respond and live out its role to bring peace where there is violence. Leading thinkers and organizers will update and equip us; workshops will provide hands-on analysis and action ideas; together we will explore how Gospel values can transform our culture's acceptance of gun violence and lead us to build a culture of peace.
This event is sponsored by Stony Point Center, the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program, the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship, the Advisory Committee on Social Witness Policy, the Synod of the Northeast Public Policy Advocacy Network, Albany Presbytery and Monmouth Presbytery. Register now.
