Participants in the 2009 Peacemaking Conference at the Big Tent explored Jesus’ call to make peace with our neighbors around the corner and across God’s world. Through the lens of Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan, peacemakers pondered the reality that being neighbors is a matter of spiritual relationship as well as geographic proximity. The Rev. Dr. Mark Lomax provided theological reflections that challenged participants to consider how their love of God might inspire them to love neighbors more fully. The conference included visits to sites in metropolitan Atlanta where peacemaking is taking place, a reception with the Stated Clerk, the Rev. Gradye Parsons, a simple meal held at North Avenue Presbyterian Church and sponsored by the Peacemaking Committee of the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta, sharing stories from our own neighborhoods and engaging in public witness, small group discussions and conversations on current issues. Participants included people who had attended many peacemaking conferences, people attending their first peacemaking conference and people attending other Big Tent conferences who sampled a portion of the peacemaking conference.
