About International
Peacemakers

In 2007, two programs combined resources and shared the same schedule: the International
Peacemakers and the Interfaith Listening Teams. Members of both groups are pictured
at their Orientation. Photo by Joseph Williams
As Christians, we are called to feed the hungry, give drink
to the thirsty, welcome the stranger, clothe the naked, care for the sick and
visit the imprisoned (Matthew 25:35-36). The impoverished peoples of the world
cry out for the resources that we sometimes mindlessly, though unintentionally,
squander. Bringing justice to the poor who hunger and thirst for righteousness
as much as for food and clean water is the responsibility of every follower of
Christ. In 2008, our International Peacemakers have been carefully chosen to
bring the voices of the poor to the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Each has been
asked to speak and present on the theme of poverty — what this means in
the context of their country, and how the Church there is responding to local
needs. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about
the causes of, and remedies for, poverty in our world.

Who are the International Peacemakers?
International Peacemakers are leaders who
are engaged in peacemaking in their own areas of the world. They are invited
by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to visit with Presbyterians in the United
States and to help us understand the peace and justice concerns of others around
the world. This sharing translates into a better understanding of the peace and
justice issues in our own communities. |

and must be made in writing. Please submit your request by June 15. You will receive confirmation by mid-July.
What does it cost?
Presbyteries, educational institutions and other entities
which host International Peacemakers are asked to pay $400 to the Presbyterian
Peacemaking Program, and to provide room, board and ground transportation during
