Mitri Raheb Visit

The Presbyterian UN Office worked with a number of different groups to sponsor three events in New York featuring the Rev. Dr. Mitri Raheb, pastor of the Christmas Lutheran Church in Bethlehem.

A Conversation on the Israel Palestine Conflict

Representatives of the PC(USA), Israelis, American Jews, and Palestinian Christians came together to discuss the many facets of the current conflict.

Presentation and Book Signing

Dr. Raheb spoke about his ministry in Bethlehem and his new book, Bethlehem Besieged: Stories of Hope in Times of Trouble. A book signing and reception followed.

Conversation with Youth

Dr. Raheb spoke with youth about the role of youth in creating a more just world. This event did not focus on the politics of Israel/Palestine; rather it looked at the larger discussion of justice, changing world communities and young people. 

Born in Bethlehem, Dr. Raheb is founder and president of The Dar al-Kilma Academy, a school dedicated to the development of the Palestinian educational system. He is also general director of The International Center of Bethlehem, which promotes Palestinian art and music, adult education, intercultural exchange, and authentic tourism. He has received several peace awards including the prestigious Wittenburg Award for distinguished Service to the church. Despite the growing violence, he remains an ardent advocate for peace in the region.
