The following is adapted from
an Easter rap that comes from the Presbytery of Coastal Carolina.
It could be done by a youth group or young adult group in the
church. In presenting it, it would be helpful to note that the
roots of the "rap" style come from the African American
search for justice.
Listen up, people we've got something to say,
to help us celebrate this Easter Day!
Christ was laid in a grave, the world was relieved;
But on Easter he was raised, and the world was peeved.
His disciples were hid, locked in a house;
Fear chilled their hearts and hushed their mouths.
"Peace be with you," was the word he said.
Their joy was full, their spirits fed.
But then the pierced side he showed,
to prove that he who had died, arose.
He breathed on them, the Spirit to receive.
Sent them out to a world in haggard need.
To every age we now must go.
To bear his name, both high and low.
Where evil throws its weight around,
The Christ rose up to bring it down!
We too must stand on the side of life
and practice love to end the strife.
If the world is to be a blessed place,
We together must run this Christian race.
Say, "Glory, glory, glory."
Say, "Hallelu, hallelu, hallelu!"
Peace!
