Lyrics

I’m not so very different from the kids on your street
Laughin’ and smiling’, the grass is ticklin’ my feet
A mountain of promise in a tiny dark haired child
But my shoes are in shambles… got a hole in my shirt
My eyes may be shinin’, but it only hides the hurt
It hardly feels human when you’re barely gettin’ by

CHORUS
You oughtta’ feel what it’s like to be me
Wanting to live the way God intended life to be.
I’m prayin’ for hope. I pray heaven is real.
But most of all I wanna’ know how it feels
To like to be me

I dream of warmth in the winter, and bread for my meal
A roof for the rain, medicine to heal
The simplest of needs, for a world so wide.
I’ve got a lot to say, if you’ll just lend me your ear
Guilt and pity get so noisy, they make it awful hard to hear
I’m only asking for dignity, and a piece of your time

CHORUS

I’ve heard the Lord provides
But I need your help to make it real
So please just take a look inside
And find your power to heal

FINAL CHORUS
No one should feel what it’s like to be me…
Wanting to live the way God intended life to be.
I’m prayin’ for hope. I pray heaven is real.
Cuz’ God alone, can show how it feels
To like to be me

I’m wanna’ like to be me
I’m not so very different from the kids on your street
I wanna' like bein' me
