Dear Friends in Christ,
I am asking for your help. For the past two
years, the Pentecost Offering has commissioned artwork to illustrate
its yearly theme. In 2005, the art was prepared by Matthias
Brown, a middle school student. Walnas Congas, a young adult
from Haiti, painted the art for the 2006 Offering. Both pieces
of art were so good and elicited such positive responses that
we have decided to continue this pattern. For 2007, we would
like the Offering art to be created by a high school student.
Because the past two artists were male, we are especially interested
in considering the art of young women, but any high school student
with an artistic gift is encouraged to apply. Do you know such
a young person?
We are inviting high school students to submit
original art or a photo or two of a painting, drawing, or mixed
media artwork that they feel demonstrates their creative abilities.
The Pentecost Offering team will review these submissions and
from them invite five young people to submit sketches demonstrating
how they would illustrate the 2007 theme, “That very spirit!”
(Rom. 8:16). For those sketches, each of the five young people
will be paid $100. From those five sketches, the team will select
one to create the artwork to illustrate the 2007 theme. The
compensation for this finished artwork will be $500.
The timetable is as follows:
- Deadline for sample art submissions April
24
- Response to all submissions, and finalists
notified April 26
- Deadline for sketches May 12
- Response to all sketches, and finalist
commissioned May 19
- Deadline for receipt of final artwork
June 14
