We had heard that some elementary-age students might not be
able to receive milk during the school year because their parents
were short of funds. In discussion with school personnel, I
found out also that the school counselor spent her own money
on school supplies for those students who were in need. These
children fall into gaps that cant be met by federal, state,
or local funding.
At Community Presbyterians stewardship committee meeting
we decided to give our 40 percent of the Pentecost Offering
to the school so personnel could use it to buy milk tickets
and school supplies as they saw fit. Some of these low-income
people are from our own congregation. We don't want to see the
children go without the necessities of school, especially when
it comes to nutrition!
