This is the first year we have participated in the Pentecost
Offering. We have decided to divide the almost $1,000 that we
keep locally for two different projects. We have reached out
to our area homeless shelter by providing milk on a monthly
basis, requesting grants through our presbytery on behalf of
those in the shelter, and by preparing and serving meals there.
Now we are going to help by using Pentecost Offering monies
to provide toys for children and books and Bibles for teens
and preteens. We will also allocate funds for activities for
children during the summer months. This summer we are going
to provide scholarship money for parks and recreational activities
and buy some punch cards so kids can go swimming at the neighborhood
pool. Next year we hope to use the Pentecost Offering for activities
for the kids at the shelter.
The other project is brand-new. We are working with another
church to provide a faith-based after-school program at an elementary
school one day per week. Many of the kids we expect to participate
are definitely in the at-risk category. The program will be
free, so Pentecost monies will go toward the purchase of curriculum
as well as craft materials, snacks, and other supplies. Were
really excited! And we feel blessed that the Lord moved us to
be a part of this Offering for the first timehaving no
idea at the time what we would need these funds for! Awesome!
