First Presbyterian Church used its 40 percent share of the
Pentecost Offering to help send children in need to a Salvation
Army summer camp, Camp Paradise Valley, located in north-central
Tennessee near the Kentucky border. Christian education is a
major focus of the weeklong camp. Some of the campers were unfamiliar
with the Bible, but children who did not have a Bible were provided
one. This was the first opportunity some of the children had
ever had for an outdoor camping experience. A chartered, air-conditioned
bus transported the children on what would otherwise have been
an uncomfortably warm trip that took several hours.
One of the local Salvation Army leaders, an extremely
devoted woman, attends our church occasionally, writes
Cindy Barnett. She recently received a Child Advocate
of the Year award from, I believe, the state of Tennessee.
