A child entering a foster care program is often feeling isolated
and has little more than what he or she is wearing. First Presbyterian
Church decided to support these children by providing We
Care Packs paid for with its 40 percent of the Pentecost
Offering. Congregation members filled backpacks with a picture
postcard of the church, a few verses of Psalm 23, a book of
prayers or a battery-powered hymnbook, T-shirts, teddy bears,
hand puppets, sticker books, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. Combs,
notebooks, pencils, and simple games suitable for various ages
rounded them out. We expressed our wish that they would
be given to kids at risk whose world was suddenly turned upside
down.
