At Brighton Presbyterian Church, in Zanesville, Ohio, we have
a program called Bus Stop Breakfast. One morning a week during
the school year, we provide a hot breakfast and warm place for
the neighborhood children to wait for the bus. Our church is
situated in a low-income neighborhood, and we usually have ten
to twenty children who join us Wednesday mornings for breakfast.
We have volunteers who come early to get the food started and
welcome the children as they enter the church. This time with
the children also gives our parish nurse an opportunity to identify
children at risk. Our congregations share of the Pentecost
Offering will help this program continue, so our neighborhood
kids can start off their school day with a healthy breakfast
and a hug or a smile from someone who cares.
