Mini-Study on Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)

A questionnaire was sent to all moderators of Committee on Preparation for Ministry (CPM) electronically on February 16, 2007. As of March 21, 2007, 94 CPM moderators responded with data from 91 presbyteries for analysis. The response rate is 54 percent.

Having Policy Requiring CPE

  • Sixty-six percent (66%) of presbyteries responded have policy requiring CPE.
  • Twenty percent (20%) of presbyteries responded do not have policy, but require some or all of their inquirers and candidates to have CPE.
  • Twelve percent (12%) of the presbyteries responded do not have policy and do not require CPE.

Availability of CPE Opportunities

  • Seventy-six (76) presbyteries responded to the question, "Is it difficult to find CPE opportunities?"
  • Eighty-two percent (82%) responded with "No. It is not difficult."
  • Eighteen percent (18%) responded with "Yes. It is difficult."
