Congregational Ministries Publishing is pleased to continue this popular adult Bible-Study curriculum, based on the Cooperative Uniform Lesson Series. The Present Word continues the rich and long tradition of adult Bible Discovery — relevant, thought-provoking and stimulating.

The Present Word curriculum seeks to facilitate mastery of Bible content, understanding of the Bible in relation to life experiences, and a greater awareness of God’s self-disclosure, especially God’s redeeming love as revealed in Jesus Christ.

Within the pages of this curriculum, participants are invited to reflect on how they might live in faith and love. The Present Word nurtures individual growth as a child of God rooted in the Christian community, life in the Spirit and Christian hope. Discussion and activities encourage participants to live out their faith in their individual and congregational activities.

The Present Word curriculum emphasizes the Bible as God’s revelation and the major source of understanding the Christian faith. It underscores the Biblical witness as the most effective means of teaching the gospel. The Present Word lessons give attention to issues such as personal faith, ethics, human relationships, community responsibility, resurrection hope and the implications of Christian discipleship under the Lordship of Christ and in the fellowship of his Spirit.

Because teachers are important in the learning process, The Present Word has step-by-step guidance for the teachers. In the quarterly Leader’s Guide, each week’s session is carefully outlined with a full description of the materials needed, plus reproducible pages and resources to help the leader. The quarterly Student’s Book includes a Scripture reading for the lesson, study materials with reflection questions throughout and a prayer after each lesson.

The quarterly Worship Leaflets contain material for a short worship service that can be used as an opening session during class or in other settings. They also provide Scripture and questions for meditation. View a sample of the worship leaflets. Indicates PDF format.

Images of Christ

This summer we take a look at the various ways Jesus is portrayed in the New Testament. The earliest believers answered the question, “Who is Jesus?” using stories, metaphors, affirmations, titles and word pictures.  All were significant responses and together these responses contributed to the later development of a category of systematic theology known as Christology: the study of the nature, meaning and significance of Jesus Christ. Over the next three months, you have the opportunity to begin a personal response to the Christological question, “Who is Jesus?” by studying three sets of images offered in the New Testament.
