Mulanje Mission Hospital
Renovation and Expansion Family Shelter
Mulanje, Malawi
Provide improved shelters and education in hygiene for relatives who care for hospitalized family members
Mission/Purpose Statement
Mulanje Mission Hospital provides quality preventive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative health care in an environment where Christian values are upheld to those in the community who seek their services, irrespective of gender, age, religion or social status. Similar to other mission hospitals in Malawi, Mulanje Mission Hospital does not provide food for patients. Since patients are responsible for preparing their own meals and washing their clothes, they need to be accompanied by a relative. These relatives play also a crucial role in the provision of psychological support. However, provisions for the relatives are often neglected. The hospital will teach caregivers practical health education (hygiene) and environmental education (rational water consumption and fire wood saving).
