Dear Presbyterian Women and Creative Ministries Offering Committee,

Thank you very much for accepting to fund our “Building a Strong Future for the Congo” proposal. This is an exciting project for us, using nutrition, education and improved technical assistance to address the problems that our children face.

Malnutrition is a contributing factor of 60 percent of children’s deaths in Congo. This project supports the promotion of the Moringa tree — a very cost effective way of decreasing malnutrition. The project also supports the construction or repair of schools, as well as funding for textbooks, training and supervision. The project also facilitates the technical assistance that is needed for all the health, education and evangelism work of the church.

“Building a Strong Future for the Congo” will strengthen ministries in education, nutrition and technical assistance. These projects will improve the lives of at least 700,000 Congolese people, particularly children, who are trying to recover from Congo’s devastating 10-year war.

2008 Birthday Offering of Presbyterian Women

The Creative Ministries Offering Committee (CMOC) of Presbyterian Women reviews proposals and selects recipients before the Birthday Offering is collected. For 2008, the CMOC decided to award two larger grants, rather than five smaller ones as in past years. This will allow those two projects to make an even more significant impact in their communities. The grant amounts for the recipients listed here will depend on the funds contributed during 2008. The goal for the offering is $1.2 million.

Muchas gracias por seleccionar nuestro proyecto “Construyendo un futuro más sólido para el Congo” Estamos muy entusiasmados/as con este proyecto, al poder abordar los problemas que afectan a nuestra niñez, concentrándonos en la nutrición, educación y el apoyo técnico.

La desnutrición es un factor que contribuye en un 60 por ciento a la muerte infantil en el Congo. Este proyecto promueve el valor del árbol de Moringa, una forma muy costo efectivo para desminuir el problema de la desnutrición. El proyecto también cubre la construcción o restauración de escuelas, como también provee para libros de textos, adiestramiento y supervisión. El proyecto también facilita el apoyo técnico que se necesita para todo el trabajo de la iglesia en el área de salud, educación y evangelismo.

“Construyendo un futuro más sólido para el Congo” ayudará a fortalecer los ministerios educativos de nutrición y asistencia técnica, mejorando la calidad de vida para alrededor de 700,000 congoleños, niños/as en particular que están tratando de recuperarse luego de una guerra de diez años de duración.

El Comité de Ofrenda de Ministerios Creativos de la Mujeres Presbiterianas revisa las propuestas y selecciona a los dos proyectos beneficiarios antes de que se colecte la ofrenda. Para el 2008, el Comité decidió dar dos contribuciones grandes en lugar de cinco contribuciones pequeñas como en años anteriores, para que la ofrenda hiciera un impacto mayor en esos dos lugares. La cantidad otorgada a los dos beneficiarios dependerá de los fundos colectados durante el 2008. La meta para la ofrenda del 2008 es $1.2 millones.
