PC(USA)'s
Position on HIV/AIDS in Africa
The 215th General Assembly (Denver, 2003) approved the Resolution on Africa,
which commits the PC(USA) to mission work that addresses prevention, treatment
and support of people living with HIV/AIDS in Africa.
What Can We Do?
Pray for people who are living with HIV or AIDS and pray for discernment to
know how best to respond.
Learn about HIV/AIDS in the United States, Africa and globally
... not just the facts, but what life is like for those living
with HIV and AIDS in their lives, families and communities.
The Washington Office on Africa is a church-sponsored organization
that promotes a just American policy toward Africa. Their educational
packets cover a variety of topics about Africa, including
HIV/AIDS.
Engage in hands-on mission projects. Create an AIDS
Home-Based Care Kit for PC(USA) partner church hospitals
in Malawi and Kenya.
Form or join a Presbyterian
AIDS action committee. Committees
in Presbyterian congregations and presbyteries link with PC(USA)
partner churches in Africa.
Support Extra Commitment Opportunity (ECO) Accounts. ECO accounts
channel gifts to particular mission concerns within the Presbyterian
Church (U.S.A.).
