Number of Active Ministers, Pastors, and Other Active Ministers
1985-2000

The number of active ministers in the PC(USA) has dropped from 15,446 in 1985 to 13,989 in 2000, a decline of 9%. This overall decline consists of two very different trends. The number of pastors (pastors, co-pastors, and associate pastors) has declined 17% since 1985 (at about the same rate as the membership, which has declined 16%), while the number of other active ministers has actually increased by 1%.
