Congregational Statistics: End of Year 1995

Peacemaking

Slightly more than half of congregations (54%) reported that they were engaged in peacemaking efforts during 1995, and 41% have adopted the "Commitment to Peacemaking" (either with the text suggested by the General Assembly or with revisions made by their sessions). Approximately 37% of the congregations that were engaged in peacemaking efforts in 1995 reported that they had not adopted the "Commitment to Peacemaking." Congregational Statistics figures from previous years show a slight decrease in the percentage of congregations reporting involvement in peacemaking efforts in the last five years (56% in 1990, 57% in 1992, and 55% in 1994). In addition, the percentage of congregations engaged in peacemaking efforts that also have adopted the "Commitment to Peacemaking" continues to decline (82% in 1995 compared to 84% in 1994 and 91% in 1991).
