The First Survey - Background Information
The first survey collected background information about these
three groups-their religious upbringing, current beliefs and
involvement in their congregations, and demographic data such
as age, gender, and marital status. Results are presented in
a brief summary, as well as in three detailed reports-one for
each racial-ethnic group.
These three reports provide a broad interpretation of the results
of the first survey. We asked researchers from each of these
racial-ethnic groups to interpret the data for their own group.
Teresa Sauceda, Ph.D. summarized results for Hispanic Presbyterians;
Scott Williamson, Ph.D. summarized results for African-American
Presbyterians, and Shin Kim, Ph.D. and Kwang Chung Kim, Ph.D.
summarized results for Korean-American Presbyterians.
We did not specify a particular format for these reports.
Rather, we were
hoping for a variety of styles, and that is what we got. This
variety should
help you as you look at the data. For example, you can take
the
questions or points made in Dr. Sauceda's article and apply
them to the
data presented in the other articles. You can do the same for
the
questions and points raised by Dr. Williamson and Drs. Shin.
We hope that you find this information helpful. If you have
any questions
concerning these data or need more information about how the
survey
was conducted, please contact the Research Services office.
