Hear the Word podcast - Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C

Weekly Revised Common Lectionary podcast of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)

Each podcast (MP3 file) includes four lectionary readings for one of the Sundays or festivals of the church year:  an Old Testament reading, a Psalm, an Epistle and a Gospel reading. Following each set of readings is a prayer for the day from the Book of Common Worship. May these scriptures be a source of challenge and hope as you prepare your heart and mind for Sunday worship, and may the Word of God guide and nourish you in the service of daily living.

  1. The themes of this upcoming lection have a curious mixture of pride and healing. I am a man with an obvious physical challenge- a mild form of Cerebal Palsy. In my teens I was further afflicted with an attenuated epileptic disorder. At 52 I have had my share of pride (what pastor does not take pride in their flock)? I have also had my share of the prideful wondering how such a different looking and sounding man could be called by God to the ministry. This isn't supposition rather people have confessed their unbelief at first and then after watching me minister saw the Spirit at work within me. So I wonder that such shallow distinctions are made to those called by God.
