Richard Terry and his wife, Virginia, took up residence in Monte Vista Grove Homes, a Presbyterian-related retirement community in Pasadena, California. In August 2008, Mrs. Terry was diagnosed with dementia, requiring that she be moved to their community’s skilled-nursing section. Faced with increased costs, Rev. Terry applied for and received support from the Board of Pensions’ Assistance Program. He passed away just one month later...

O God, the Things That Make for Peace hymn and bulletin insert

Hymn writer Carolyn Winfrey Gillette wrote this hymn for the Season of Peace to support the work of the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program and the Peacemaking Offering.
The hymn is based on the new, free Bible study “The Things That Make For Peace.” The Bible study and the hymn have five movements: recognizing peace, finding peace, practicing peace, extending peace, and living peace. Congregations are encouraged to use both the hymn and Bible study during the Season of Peace, September 9-October 7.
