Paper - In Life and in Death We Belong to God: Euthanasia, Assisted Suicide, and End-of-Life Issues

The 213th General Assembly (2001) directed the Office of Theology and Worship to conduct a Churchwide dialogue on End-of-Life Issues. As part of the Office of Theology and Worship's continuing work to implement this directive, we are making available in digital format In Life and In Death We Belong To God: Euthanasia, Assisted Suicide, and End-of-Life Issues, first published in print format in 1995.

  1. Suicide (not "suicide prevention" which is all that I'm finding on OUR website) is a topic that I need to discuss with a fellow PC-USA friend who was, as most are, raised in another denomination. Scholarly articles, written by Presbyterian or PC-USA authors would be appreciated. I was raised United Methodist. My friend was raised Baptist (not sure of which Baptist denomination). My friend, an older (70+) grandmother is stating publicly that "suicide is not a moral or deadly sin". I am finding articles on Catholic Church websites, but I am finding NOTHING on the PC-USA website. While I am comfortable giving creedence to "fellow" teachers at the Catholic church, I am not so sure that my "Baptist -> PC-USA" friend may not be so open. :) Can you help me with a focused Presbyterian-written article with biblical references for my friend? Hopefully, this is not one of those issues that PC-USA plays tennis with, like the "homosexual" issues. Thank you, Barry Smith
