We don’t have as much information about deacons, since some congregations do not have deacons. Table 14 in our annual Comparative Statistics publication has a summary of the demographic characteristics of deacons. Download that resource here: http://www.pcusa.org/resource/comparative-statistics-2009-table-14/

Hi, very helpful info regarding average number of elders. Is there similar data for deacons? Thank you!

We can’t tell you what is best for your church, but we do have information about what is typical in churches of your size. This table from our annual Comparative Statistics resource: http://www.pcusa.org/media/uploads/research/pdfs/2009_table_15.pdf shows the median number of elders on session in churches based on membership size.

We are a church with 700 membership. I'm trying to determine what the ideal number or range of volunteer leaders (deacons and elders) is for this size church. We currently have 24 each. Can somebody give me a place to find it or a rule of thumb for the number. Thanks,
