The original day of the Sabbath was Saturday, with the day beginning at sundown of the previous day (i.e. what we would call Friday night.) The Sabbath, which means rest, is the day God gave us to rest, as the Lord did at the end of creation. It was traditionally associated with feast days as signs of the Day of the Lord, when God would restore creation to what it was intended to be. Christians celebrate our sabbath on Sunday now because Jesus Christ, the Lord, instituted the anticipated the New Creation with the Resurrection. This is why we call each Sunday the Lord's Day.
