Are you a Womanist, Mujerista or Asian-American Woman Theologian?

In 1999 a series of primers published by PC(USA) introduced the biblical and theological work of Reformed theology from women’s perspectives. The series included primers from the perspectives of feminist, womanist mujerista and Asian-American women. Read reflections on these primers from young women of fatith.

REYWT is dedicated to the spiritual formation and leadership enhancement of racial ethnic young women called to Christian service.  For spiritual formation, it is important for all Christians to understand themselves as theological beings who seek understanding of the world through faith in the one sovereign God. As Presbyterians we identify with the Reformed tradition and Reformed theology of witnessing to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Theology is a way for us to seek understanding about God and the world around us through the lens of our faith. Our understanding is shaped by our particular and varied perspectives as individuals, which include our social, cultural, gender and educational context to name a few.  Understanding ourselves as theological beings enhances our ability as Christians to lead in both church and society as we strive to live in the witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Coming Home: Asian American Women Doing Theology coverComing Home:  Asian American Women Doing Theology

Written by Unzu Lee. We listen to the voices of the Asian women doing theology from the vantage point of women in the Asian-American context. Faithful to their backgrounds, their pain and their own understandings of their faith commitments and their cultural heritages, Lee describes the varied perspectives that contribute to an Asian-American perspective. Lee explores Biblical understanding, cultural experience and identity of Asian-American women probing the who, why and how of theological reflection. She challenges one to consider the reality often experienced as "neither/nor" and consider an alternative in which one can be "both/and."
